A California Judge has ruled that the state legislature acted outside the scope of its authority when it passed the End of Life Option Act. This law, that the Jesuit educated Governor Jerry Brown signed into law October 2015, gives terminally ill patients the ability to ask for life-ending medication.
The law was very controversial. The legislature used a special session not associated with euthanasia to pass this egregious law. Judge Danil Ottolia of Riverside ruled that this procedural choice of the nation’s largest state was illegal, thus temporarily overturning the law until the Attorney General weighs in.
Those defending a culture of life were shocked when the law came to pass so quickly. This injunction gives the pro-life community a window of hope.
